Established in February 2003, ELF Capital Management, LLC (formerly Hoffman, White & Kaelber Financial Services) is an alternative for investors seeking an investment manager experience with a firm that acts on movements and trends in global economies, taken as a whole, rather than employing a strategy that lives or dies by how a specific sector might perform in an economic cycle.

It is our belief that most money managers pursue strategies whose scope of opportunity spans an inch wide, while exhibiting a level of understanding that goes a mile deep. The challenge with these "inch wide and mile deep" managers is that they go through periods when their "inch wide" strategy underperforms, offering less opportunity, than others in the global marketplace. When a manager's strategy is out of favor, investors either have to make a change or become unhappy that their money is not growing as well as they had hoped.

ELF Capital Management ("ELF") looks a "mile wide" for investment opportunities while offering talent, expertise and ongoing research efforts to dig down quite "deep". At the same time, we focus on understanding and managing the risks inherent in each and every investment we make. What ELF offers is a total portfolio strategy that selects from a broad array of investment opportunities while employing a managed risk approach.

After a storied 15 year career on Wall Street and 5 enlightening years as a senior member of the University of Virginia's venerable investment management group, Henry Kaelber recognized that only the largest institutions or wealthy families could afford this level of service and focused expertise. Blending an opportunity to provide an alternative approach for investors, together with a desire to operate from picturesque Charlottesville, Virginia, Henry formed ELF.

With all due professional respect, brokers and financial advisors do a splendid job of helping investors select and purchase investment opportunities. While these professionals play an important role in making recommendations, ELF's role is as a fiduciary that researches, vets and acts on investment opportunities - all within it's risk management framework. In addition, ELF's personnel spend considerably more time on the investment process rather than educating and selling each individual client on each individual idea.

For the first 5 years of the firm's existence, ELF operated under the name Hoffman, White & Kaelber Financial Services. This related to our earlier affiliation with Hoffman, White & Company ("HW&Co"), a CPA firm. This former relationship notwithstanding, ELF is and has always been a separate entity with separate management control while previously sharing office space with HW&Co. In February 2008, we change our name to ELF Capital Management to help our audience have a clearer picture of what we do. Not only is it evident that we manage money, our new name facilitates an understanding of the Endowment Like Fund (ELF) strategy we employ.
